Bottle Refusal Consultations for Families in Arlington
When your baby will not take a bottle and your return-to-work date is getting closer, you need more than another bottle brand to try. A bottle refusal consultation gives you one-on-one feeding support and a clear plan built around your baby and your timeline.
Consultations are led by Aarani Montanari, an IBCLC lactation consultant based in Arlington, with in-home bottle refusal consultations across the Greater Boston area and telehealth visits for families farther out.
Who This Consultation Is For
This service is designed for parents whose baby refuses a bottle or accepts it only inconsistently. It is especially helpful if you are preparing to return to work, starting daycare or a nanny, or relying on a partner to share feeds. It also fits families whose baby took a bottle early on and then stopped, and those whose newborn refuses bottle feeds from the start. Consultations are best suited to babies under about six months.
What Your Consultation Looks For
Bottle refusal rarely comes down to a single cause, so your visit is built to find yours. Nipple flow is assessed, since a flow that is too fast can overwhelm a breastfed baby and one that is too slow can frustrate them. Timing, positioning, and who offers the bottle are reviewed as well. Your consultant also checks for less obvious factors, including oral function concerns and stored milk that has taken on a soapy taste from enzyme activity.
What Is Included
In-home visits run 75 minutes, and telehealth visits run about 45 minutes. Each consultation includes a full feeding history, an observed bottle feed, a review of your bottles and nipples, and a written step-by-step plan covering who should offer the bottle, when, and how plus oral motor exercises to help address any identified dysfunction and referrals other specialists as needed. Follow-up messaging is included so you can share progress and adjust the plan as your baby responds.
Insurance and Booking
Bottle refusal consultations may be covered for eligible families with Aetna, The Lactation Network, or Wildflower Health. If your plan is not listed, self-pay is available, and you will receive a superbill to submit for reimbursement. Not sure whether a full visit is the right fit? A brief introductory call can help you decide.
